THANJAVUR: A quack who was arrested by police in connection with the murder of a 27-year-old cab driver in Thanjavur has confessed that he had also murdered another man who went missing in 2021, police said. According to the police, the siddha quack, T Kesavamoorthi, told them that both of them were his homosexual partners and he had killed them after coming to know about their marriage plans.
Police had arrested the 47-year-old quack, a resident of East Street in Cholapuram in Thanjavur, on November 19 on charges of murdering cab driver Ashokrajan and burying his body in the backyard of his house after chopping it into pieces. Soon after, police started inquiring into a man missing complaint on Mohammed Anas of Cholapuram, who was also known to be a friend of the quack.
Deputy superintendent of police, Thiruvidaimaruthur, Jaffer Siddiq, told TOI that the investigation team searched the house and backyard of Kesavamoorthi thoroughly on Sunday for any shred of evidence on Anas. They have now sent the jawbone exhumed from his backyard as well as a silver chain, which the accused claimed belonged to Mohammed Anas, for scientific analysis.
Police now say Kesavamoorthi administered excess herbal powder to Ashokrajan claiming it will enhance his sexual performance after coming to know that he had fallen in love with a girl who was his relative and was going to marry her. Asokrajan had collapsed and died on November 13. Police have found that Mohammed Anas went missing on December 27, 2021. Kesavamoorthy has told police that he murdered Anas by giving the same herbal powder when he was informed about his marriage proposal.
The investigation team is now checking a list of people who took treatment from the quack and those who were in regular touch with him, the DSP further said.
